Ikhala offers a scalable D-MRV tool that can be applied across the full spectrum of climate positive projects.
Co-founders Jean Pierre du Plessis and Wihan Bekker met in 2018 and launched African Data Technologies in 2020, focusing on green construction, waste management, and carbon credit development. Through their work implementing sustainability projects across various industries, a recurring challenge became evident: the complexity of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes.
MRV is essential for any organisation seeking to validate climate change mitigation outcomes or quantify the environmental footprint of a product. However, traditional MRV methods are often fragmented, inefficient, and difficult to scale, creating significant barriers for projects and businesses looking to access carbon markets, compliance frameworks, and sustainability-linked finance. Initially, we developed Excel-based frameworks and templates to help clients structure and manage their data according to specific reporting and certification requirements.
Recognising the vast market opportunity for scalable, digital MRV solutions, we founded Ikhala Impact in 2021 to develop CHARR (Carbon Harmonisation and Accounting for Reductions and Removals)—a proprietary D-MRV (Digital MRV) platform that streamlines data collection, compliance, and reporting.
